What
if you just want advice?
Parents who are choosing their first nanny are often
overwhelmed. What do they really need? How do they
get someone interested in their families? Should
they do background checks and if so, how do they do
that?
A nanny consultant can work in various ways. It is
extremely helpful if the consultant can come into
the home and work the job for at least a few days.
Then she can sit down with the family and help them
prioritize their nanny requirements.
A consultant can also help place the ads and screen
the applicants for them. When she forms a list of
possibilities, she discusses them with the parents.
I have written the first emails to the nannies and
made the first phone interview. Afterwards I write
the interview up for the parents to decide if this
is a good candidate for them. I suggest to the
parents to give themselves a set time for finding
candidates so we have a start and cut off date.
The parents will then call and do the second phone
interviews to see if anyone "feels right". At the
end of their cut off time they should have 3-5
candidates to interview in person.
If you decide to bypass agencies and want to do your
search on the internet, I can tell you going through
online resumes/newspaper replies is very time
consuming. My consultancy service lets parents
look at just those nannies who stand a chance of
fitting in with their families.
Sometimes you may want to pay a small higher fee and
combine the temporary nanny with the consultant
included. This gives you temporary nanny help if you
need it and a consultant at the same time.
